Asset Operations Manager

Isle of Man | £55,000 to £65,000 | Permanent

For over 175 years, gas has had an increasing influence on Channel Islands life. From as early as 1820, it was used to light the streets of the Islands and was later utilised in local homes. Since 1830 our client has been leading the natural gas and LPG distribution industry. Supplying both business and domestic clients over 40,000 customers connect to their networks across Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man.

Reporting to the Head of Asset Management you will be responsible for Operational Engineering Officers across Guernsey, Jersey and Isle of Man. The purpose of the role is to ensure the operation and maintenance of all fixed assets in line with regulations, manufacturers recommendations and operating at maximise performance efficiency.


  • Overall responsibility for the health and safety of all employees within Asset Operations

  • Responsibility for safe control of operations on all Lower and Upper Tier COMAH sites and bulk LPG sites

  • Ensuring operational compliance with the COMAH safety report

  • Ensuring key risk control procedures are applied across all operational sites

  • Responsibility for LPG stock control and logistics to maintain minimum stock always

  • Providing support to Engineering Officers to ensure a continuous gas supply into the distribution network

  • Operational cost (OPEX) accountability for Asset Operations

  • Completion of planned preventive maintenance as specified in the Computerised Maintenance System

  • Use of the CMMS for monitoring, recording and controlling unplanned reactive maintenance

  • Supporting nominated Team Managers implement Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) Projects

  • Ensuring CMMS provides key performance indicators that capture performance, integrity and efficiency data

  • Ensuring asset risk are reduced by managing the scheduling of preventive and reactive maintenance tasks

  • Carrying out process implementation and technical implementation audits within Asset Operations

  • Ensuring company is compliant with all levels of legislation regarding asset maintenance

  • Providing asset integrity management support to the asset management function and the rest of the business

  • Continually improve the operation of the staff and processes in the asset management function

  • Challenge inefficiencies and inaccuracies and provide solutions

  • Lead, direct, motivate and display role model behaviour to staff within the Asset Management Function

  • Responsible for detailing variances in all areas of responsibility and ensuring corrective actions are closed

  • Responsible for managing and controlling operational cost (OPEX) within Asset Operations

  • Interface seamlessly with the Asset Delivery Manager and Asset Integrity Manager

  • Contribute to their annual performance development review and interim performance reviews

  • Responsible for identifying any possible risks or near misses via Hazard reporting


We’re looking for a strong decision maker with the ability to influence and lead varied teams. Comfortable communicating and delegating a reliable logical thinker with integrity would fit the role well.

  • Chartered Engineer approved by the British Engineering Council

  • Undergraduate degree (equivalent) or higher in engineering field or 10 years + relevant experience in Gas

  • Industry level health and safety qualifications (IOSH/NEBOSH) – preferred

  • Industry level project management certification – preferred

  • 5+ years’ experience in an engineering and asset maintenance environment (ideally ISO 55000)

  • Experience leading local teams and remote team management

  • Experience in a process engineering environment

  • Focused on achieving objectives within defined timescales to the agreed quality
