Data Architect

London | £90,000 to £120,000 | Permanent

Our client partners with growing entrepreneurial businesses that have a proven ability to distribute insurance products. The data architect will be part of a Business Intelligence team working to analyse data and present actionable information. The data architect will be responsible for defining data strategies, implementing data warehouses and lakes, extracting data from operational data sources, and building cubes. The data architect will work together with data scientists by providing them with easy access to data sets. The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.


  • Working with partners to define data strategies and architectures

  • Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional requirements

  • Defining, implementing and managing cloud-based data warehouses and data lakes

  • Implementing ETL processes to populate the data warehouses with structured and unstructured data

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability

  • Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into customer acquisition, operational efficiency and other key business performance metrics

  • Work with partners to assist with data-related technical issues, support their data infrastructure needs and develop their own in-house capabilities.


  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases

  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets

  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management

  • A successful history of manipulating, processing and extracting value from large disconnected datasets

  • Working knowledge of message queuing, stream processing, & highly scalable ‘big data’ data stores

  • Strong project management and organizational skills

  • Experience engaging and working with senior business executives

  • Experience in the insurance of financial services industry is not a prerequisite but would be advantageous

  • Experience working in a consulting or services environment with multiple customers. In a large organisation this could be working with multiple disparate business divisions

  • Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment

  • We are looking for a candidate with 5+ years of experience in a Data Architect role and 10+ years in data / information orientated roles. Industry qualifications or certifications are an advantage. They should also have experience using the following software/tools:

    • Experience in but not limited to Microsoft database & BI technologies

    • Experience with big data and BI analytics and reporting tools

    • Experience with relational SQL databases

    • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools

    • Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Azure

    • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages such as Python, Java, C++
