Engineering Officer - Networks

For over 175 years, gas has had an increasing influence on Channel Islands life. From as early as 1820, it was used to light the streets of the Islands and was later utilised in local homes. Since 1830 our client has been leading the natural gas and LPG distribution industry. Supplying both business and domestic clients over 40,000 customers connect to their networks across Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man.

Reporting to the Asset Delivery Manager you will be responsible for all engineering design & specifications, maintenance tasks and capital projects relating to Natural Gas, LPG and LPG/Air Networks & Meters.

Overview

  • As Network Controller ensure safe operational controls across our natural gas, LPG and LPG/Air networks

  • Responsible for meter asset management, ensuring age replacement programs are specified and controlled

  • Responsible for ArcGIS, Network Analysis and MRPS, ensuring accurate data is captured for reporting analysis

  • Developing and improving computerised maintenance management system to ensure all Network & Meter maintenance tasks are specified to maximise; compliance, performance, integrity and efficiency

  • Ensuring the CMMS is utilised to provide the Asset Management Function with key performance indicators

  • Demonstrate asset performance, integrity and efficiency

  • Ensuring asset risk is reduced by managing the scheduling of preventative and reactive maintenance tasks

  • Responsible for specifying the Network & Meter maintenance required for planning stages of capital projects

  • Providing expertise and consultancy to staff and business customers regarding asset maintenance standards

  • Providing asset integrity management support to the asset management function and the rest of the business

  • Continually improve the operation of the staff and processes in the asset management function

  • Challenge inefficiencies and inaccuracies and provide solutions in line with IEG values

  • Responsible for Project Team during CAPEX Project initiation and implementation stages

  • Successful delivery of key objectives set by the Head of Asset Management.

  • Responsible for detailing variances in all areas of responsibility and ensuring corrective actions are closed

  • Responsible for managing and controlling CAPEX specific to allocated Network Capital projects

  • Expected to contribute to their annual performance development review and interim performance reviews

  • Responsible for their own health and safety and the impact of their advice and actions on others

  • Responsible for identifying any possible risks or near misses via the Hazard reporting procedure.

  • Employ a close working relationship with; Asset Operations Manager, Asset Integrity Manager, Head of Network Operations and all other Operational Officers across Guernsey, Jersey and Isle of Man

Candidate

We’re looking for a natural, self-motivated, decision making leader with strong communication skills and an eye for detail. The ability to set and reassess priorities whilst being resilient under pressure will be important.

  • Chartered Engineer approved by the British Engineering Council

  • Undergraduate degree (equivalent) or higher in engineering field or 10 years + experience in Gas Industry

  • Industry level health/safety qualifications (IOSH/NEBOSH) and project management certification

  • Experience working within Gas Distribution in line with IGEM Technical Standards

  • 5+ Years professional experience in an engineering and asset maintenance environment

  • Experience leading operational teams. Experience in remote team management

  • Focused on achieving the completion of objectives within defined timescales to the agreed quality
